Outcomes First
Most teams start with tasks. We start with the outcome. What do you actually want to happen. Once that’s clear, the work, the people and the reporting get a lot simpler.
This is the mindset behind all our services. Mission Control, Design Ignited, LaunchPad, Engine Room. They all follow this shape.

What is Outcomes First?
A way of running work so it’s tied to a real result, not a vague to do list.
Start with the outcome
We write down the result you want in a way anyone can understand. For example, “more people complete the form” or “this project stops getting delayed”.
Choose the smallest work that proves it
Instead of launching everything, we pick the fastest, clearest bit of work that will move the needle.
Make progress easy to show
We decide how you’ll tell people it’s working. Usually one short update, written like a human, not a status report.
What it looks like when we run a piece of work
1. We listen to what’s happening now
You tell us what’s stuck, noisy or unclear. We don’t correct you, we just capture how it is today.
2. We rewrite it as an outcome
Something like “we want to reduce handoffs” or “we want customers to reach us faster”. This becomes the anchor.
3. We choose a small, real piece of work
A page, a short journey, a tidy up of a process, a launch. Something your team can actually do in a short period.
4. We set a simple way to report
One view, one update, written normally. So you can show progress without another meeting.
Why this matters
A lot of internal work drifts because people jump straight into activity. Someone updates a doc. Someone else builds a page. Someone else sends an email. None of it is clearly tied to a result.
Outcomes First forces the job to be clear. It lets you say no without sounding unhelpful, and it makes it possible to hand work between teams without losing the point.
Without Outcomes First
- • Lots of activity, hard to measure.
- • Different people saying different things.
- • Work grows too quickly.
With Outcomes First
- • Small, clear pieces of work.
- • Easy to tell if it’s working.
- • Easy to pass to another team.
Where this shows up on our site
We don’t just talk about outcomes and then disappear. The way we run projects, design work, launches and ongoing support all follow the same pattern.
